Paula Bowers is a master weaver with an extensive fine arts education. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Art History from Wellesley College, MA.. She studied Oil Painting at the Art Students League of New York, NYC and at New York University, NYC. Additional education was gained through the Oil Painting program at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Woven Fashion program at the Fashion Institute of Technology, NYC.
Paula began exhibiting professionally in 2000 and has gained regional and national recognition for her handwoven fabrics and wearable art. She has been involved in The Best of Tennessee Craft Artists exhibitions, the American Craft Council's Regional Spotlight Exhibitions, American Craft Council Fairs and the Judy Chicago Project at Vanderbilt University. In 2009 she received an Individual Artist Fellowship in Craft from the Tennessee Arts Commission. In 2010 she became a NICHE Award Finalist, and a Winner in 2011. She has also been a member of the prestigious Southern Highland Craft Guild for the last decade.
A native of Boston/Cape Cod, MA, Paula Bowers now resides in the mountains of Western North Carolina, where she watches the ever changing colors of the forest from her studio windows. Her days are filled with gardening, her merry band of dogs, and her ever evolving artistic creations.
